2009 COVC Jean A. Chalmers Award Recipient

ARIAS: Canadian Opera Student Development Fund is proud to congratulate soprano

YANNICK-MURIEL NOAH

as the recipient of the $10,000 COVC Jean A. Chalmers Award
as the Best Canadian Performer at the prestigious 2009 Montreal International Music Competition.

Among the 16 Semi-finalists, which had been pared down from 200, were 6 Canadians. Competing in the Finals were 8 singers (1 Canadian, 4 American, 1 German, i Italian, 1 South Korean).

The distinguished panel of judges: Andre Bourbeau, Edith Bers, Philip J. Boswell, Dame Gwyneth Jones, Tom Krause, Sherrill Milnes , Andre Turp and Joseph Rouleau were faced with some difficult choices.

Yannick-Muriel Noah distinguished herself with consistent excellent performance: polished, well-rounded, with a beautiful voice and dynamic control and was awarded the Second Place Prize of $15,000.  Her success was well deserved.

President Arija Stiver presented the COVC Jean A. Chalmers Award on a silver tray to Yannick-Muriel Noah at the Gala Concert, May 28, 2009 held at the Theatre Maisonneuve de la Place des Arts.

The competition was exceptionally well organized and Jeunesses Musicales President, Andre Bourbeau and his staff were most welcoming.

Our organization was well represented at this event by President Arija Stiver, Chalmers Committee Chair, Liliane Senteleky and Chalmers Committee members, Donna Brock, Blanche Carragher and June Shaw.
